As my subscribers know, I have been collecting meaningful documentary material for most of my career. In the late 1980s, I produced a television series on the 1960s back then I was an independent documentary filmmaker working for the networks etc. This compilation was put together by me from footage that I collected back then and although I did not shoot these scenes, I worked for the producers that did. These black Americans are angry. And expressing it articulately. Does it sound like today? In some ways yes. With the murder of George Floyd, people have gone into the streets again and some of what I present here could sound like it was recorded in the present.

Some subscribers asked why I use the word rage in my title. Yes they are angry. Yes they are seething. Yes they are disgusted and frustrated, the speakers. Looking up the definition of the word rage, I feel that some of these expressions speak to that emotion. I have interviewed so many people of all stripes on this issue and the stories that I have heard from black Americans who have suffered indignities that seem hard to believe. Somewhat disgusting. Some people have treated them as subhuman.

There is not much one can say who has not experienced what they have but I feel that by presenting this history, certainly not all that occurred back then, but a part of it, that I am helping to create a historical record which is three-dimensional if you look at the dozens of commentaries I have posted on my YouTube channel regarding civil rights, human rights, American history, family life, etc. during the 1950s, the 1960s, up into the present. I am over 80 years old and I'm still recording stories and commentaries like these.

In the 1960s, scholars traveled across Taiwan to record indigenous songs in a bid to preserve the music. But many of the recordings were lost or forgotten. Now the collection is being brought to life again, thanks to a gift from a German university.

A new major exhibition celebrating iconic fashion designer Dame Mary Quant looks at how she revolutionised the way women dressed, reflecting a new age of feminism and liberating them from "dressing like their mothers".

The retrospective at London's Victoria and Albert Museum explores the years between 1955 and 1975 when Quant tore up the fashion rule book, creating youthful, more affordable clothes that helped defined a dawning era of freedom.

After studying illustration and art education at Goldsmiths College, Quant opened her first shop, Bazaar, on King's Road, Chelsea, an area that she would help personify as the spirit of mod culture and the Swinging 60s.

In the news during the 1960s... taking a look at a scrapbook newspaper article all about the dangers of dolls!

(No political message or agenda to this video. I picked the article because it was odd and interesting for the time it was written and the assumptions that it made.)

"The Early Show" anchors recall the historical moments of the 1960s, from Woodstock to The Berlin Wall.

The western Sydney suburb of Fairfield was reportedly in the grip of a delinquency epidemic in the 1960s. A spate of recent attacks on amenities by ‘leather-jacketed-louts’ led to calls for further investment in recreational facilities for young people.

The district was undergoing dramatic changes, doubling in size in the space of eight years and undergoing a minor ethnic revolution. Those under the age of 21 now outnumbered people above that age, with large numbers of teenagers often seen gathering at local coffee shops and milk bars.

Four Corners’ reporter Frank Bennett spoke to community leaders, local parents and young people, as well as two teenagers with criminal records, about what it would take to keep offenders off the streets.

For those of us who have the good fortune to live in San Diego, we know that it’s not always 70 degrees and sunny. There has been some wild and wicked weather battering the county through the decades. Our archive has the film and video to prove it! Join us on this epic journey as we uncover our worst weather events from the 1960s through the 1990s.

In the late 1960s the press treated hippies as a joke at first and then in some cases, as a dangerous enemy who must be stopped. My experience with hippies having filmed so many of them back then was that they were gentle, innocent young people for the most part who didn't engage in political activities. By the end of the 1960s, I was filming them on rural communes where they were building structures, farming, and starting businesses some of which became surprisingly successful.

I did not film in Hyde Park in London but I collected this old report which ran internationally in movie theaters as "news".

The press coverage of the Hyde Park hippies back then largely made fun of them. Some journalists portrayed them as a dangerous and subversive element of society while others celebrated them as a symbol of youth rebellion and cultural change.

In some cases like in this news report the press focused on the more sensational aspects of the hippie movement such as drug use and unconventional lifestyles and portrayed these behaviors as a threat to the established social order. That kind of coverage often contributed to negative stereotypes of the hippies and reinforced the idea that they were a deviant and immoral group.

Hyde Park is located in London and was a popular gathering spot for counterculture movements. During the 1960s, smoking marijuana was illegal in the UK. This did not deter many young people from using the drug as a means of rebellion against the establishment. Hyde Park became a hub for these activities, with large groups of young people gathering to smoke marijuana, listen to music and discuss their ideas about politics and society.

One of the most famous events in Hyde Park during this time was the 1967 "Legalise Pot Rally," which drew thousands of people and featured speeches by well-known activists and musicians. The rally was part of a wider movement calling for the decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs, which was gaining traction in the UK and other parts of the world.

In 1969 it was estimated that about 3 million people in the UK had tried marijuana at least once and around 750,000 were considered regular users.

President Nixon faces two problems, Vietnam and racial polarisation in the big cities.
New York city has the highest proportion of people on public assistance, its police have been out on strike and its firemen are still on strike.
Up to 50,00 teachers are also out on strike because of racial friction within Brooklyn’s schools. ‘This Week’ reporter John Edwards speaks to both Teachers and those who govern the city about what can be done to solve this crisis and get the teachers back into the classrooms.

The fourth debate, in the first set of televised campaign debates, featured an hour long discussion focusing on foreign affairs. Moderated by Quincy Howe of ABC, with questions posed by a panel of journalists, the debate took place on October 21, 1960, in New York City.

In 1963, CBS News characterized Beatlemania as an "epidemic" that had "seized" Britain's teenage population. Soon, it would "infect" America.

It is part of my collection of films from the 1950s and 1960s that I used to make my television series, Making Sense Of The 60s. They couldn't conceive that women could also be journalists. And they believed that the news on television told "the truth". Walter Cronkite used to say every evening on CBS, "and that's the way it was..." Many of us knew that it wasn't "the way it was" but only a point of view -- and this helped propel many in the 1960s generation to rebel.

When BBC Television Centre opened on 29 June 1960 at Wood Lane in West London, News Extra was on hand to give us a behind the scenes look at the building "that may well become the Hollywood of television".
